What is DevSoc?
DevSoc is Nottingham Trent University’s Developers Society, but don’t let the name fool you, we’re about much more than just lines of code. We’re a society of gamers, programmers, artists, musicians, writers, testers and other enthusiasts, brought together to make games, software and gadgetry, and to have fun while developing our skills. We are the home for all the little projects that don’t fall neatly into a course or module. Based in our own, keycard-access room, we’ve got access to all the same technology as the rest of the Computing and Technology department – and a few little extras, just for us.
What does DevSoc do?
Every Wednesday we have our only formal meeting, to discuss upcoming events and projects, and organise the running of the society. We also hold Social Saturday most weeks, where we take a break from studying to relax, play a few games and chat. For the rest of the week, members can drop in any time to work on individual or group projects. This year, our planned projects include robot mice, building a 3D printer and making games for PC, XBox Live Arcade and Android.
Can I get involved?
Of course! We always welcome new members, new talent and new ideas. You don’t even need to be on a computing course – all we ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to join in. If you want to find out more, you can follow us on Twitter or Facebook to receive updates on our activities, or just drop by our room. As long as you’re a student at NTU, then joining is as easy as asking – there’s no forms and no membership fees.
